Gen 1, Chapter 3: Amazing Blaine
For both of the parents, it felt like an eternity before Evelyn was ready to try to expand the family again. In between births, everyone around them watched as her mental health slowly crumbled. It almost felt like Evelyn herself had become her lost child, and she truly felt that acting the way she was going to fill the void that had been left by the loss.
Time heals all wounds, however, and they were overjoyed to be expecting again. Every time the couple talked, it was about what they could do for the child. So, there was lots of house cleaning, lots of expansion on the makeshift nursery, anything and everything to bring their next child into this world smoothly.
Soon, little baby Blaine Adams was born, and he was quickly his parent's pride and joy. With every milestone and achievement, his parents grew more and more proud of their son, all the while thinking of how far they'd come since the first time they tried their hands at parenting. Of course, Goldie was never completely out of mind, and Evelyn still had her moments of relapse, but, for the most part, they were back on track to calmer waters.
"Papa, why is Mama playing with my toys?" Nigel's heart sank at his toddler's question. He couldn't bear to lie to his son, but, then again, there was no easy way to tell a two-year-old that his mother was suffering from irreversible mental health issues.
"Sometimes she just does that, son. It's just the way she is. Hey, maybe you and Mama can be playmates! Doesn't that sound nice, bud?" The emotions in Nigel's voice rapidly changed from one side of the spectrum to the other, but Blaine still fell for it as he went to go play with his mother. They played for the rest of the day before Blaine had to be put to bed.
The adults of the house were also growing too; Evelyn had gotten a job at a local art gallery, and with their semi-overlapping schedules with Nigel's job in tech, they needed to learn how Blaine was going to be taken care of while they brought home funds for the family.
They tried a nanny one time, and that Nanny didn't stop calling until after he was a teenager and she was supposed to be long gone. Needless to say, they never invited that woman or the company she was to work in their house again.
Yes, their little boy was now a teenager who was in the running to be the most popular boy in school; But he had started that goal from his childhood years, with him always having several friends that he ran and played with on the jungle gym. None of them, however, compared to the friendship he had with one Zara Hull. Her life would eventually be intertwined with hers, from the moment he asked her to hold the honor of being his first (and only) girlfriend.
So there was Blaine's current situation; A 16-year-old boy with two loving parents and a girlfriend who had the most loving relationship in Newcrest since his parents first got together. What more could a teenage boy ask for?
Well, certainly not two new twin siblings, that was for sure.
